About
I'm Christian Göbert-Golle. I'm the person behind Retroable, and behind Gnomish Tinkers UG, the company that runs it. It is a small company. I am the one doing the work.
As a kid I wanted to make my own Game Boy games. I could play them. I had no way to build one. I'm a programmer now, and I still think that door should be open to people who never learned this for a job. What changed is that a model can write a lot of a game, if the tool around it knows the old hardware. Retroable is that tool. You describe what you want. It builds a ROM you can play. You can start without a technical background.
My goal is plain. I want retro games, and the chance to make them, available to more people, especially people without a technical background. Game Boy and Game Boy Color are what I can build for today. Other old consoles are the direction, one machine at a time, when the work is actually ready.
There is a second reason the product exists. Every penny I earn with Retroable is, in the end, for a real place: a family arcade I have wanted for a long time. The site costs money to keep online, so that comes out first. What remains goes to Continue?.
Continue?
The modern family arcade. A plan I am saving toward.
Retroable turns the joy of making games into a way to build a real-world arcade dream.
That dream is Continue? — The Modern Family Arcade: a welcoming place where children, parents, friends, and lifelong gamers can discover the magic of gaming together. Arcade cabinets, pinball machines, retro consoles, and games made by our own community would bring generations together through play.
Its spirit is simple: make things, share the joy, and give people a reason to play together. Continue? carries the curiosity of childhood into adulthood — the feeling of discovering a game, figuring out how it works, and imagining what you could create yourself.
Retroable puts that spirit into practice. It helps people turn their ideas into playable games for real retro hardware, so game creation is open to more people. Something you imagined can become a game you play, share, and eventually hold as a physical cartridge.
For me, Retroable is also a commitment to earning the Continue? dream by building something useful for the community. Revenue from Retroable helps fund that journey, while its users get something valuable today: the chance to become game creators themselves. People anywhere in the world can take part, even if they never visit the arcade.
The dream is a place. The first step is something we can create together.
Below are sketches of that place. I kept them small so you get the feel of the rooms. The writing inside them can stay unread. These rooms are still only drawings. The games and characters in them belong to their publishers. They are there for the feeling of those games.
