Terms of service

Last updated 19 October 2026.

These terms are the general terms and conditions (Allgemeine Geschäftsbedingungen) of Gnomish Tinkers UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Christian Göbert-Golle, c/o POSTFLEX PFX-197-574, Emsdettener Straße 10, 48268 Greven, Germany ("Retroable", "we"), for retroable.dev. Creating an account or paying means you agree to them. The privacy policy describes personal data. The imprint names the provider.

Who can use Retroable

You need to be at least 18 and able to enter a contract. If you use Retroable for a company, you confirm that you can bind that company.

The service

You describe a game, and you can add a sketch. Retroable writes, builds and tests a ROM for the original Game Boy, plays it in the browser and lets you download the file. The cartridge label and the box art are made the same way.

A game is a generated result. It can miss part of an idea, and it can contain mistakes. The game page lists what the build covers. A build that stops before the game is ready does not count against your games. Ask for a change with an edit, one idea at a time.

Game Boy is a trademark of Nintendo. Retroable is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Nintendo. Do not present a game as an official Nintendo product.

Your content and your games

You keep any rights you already have in your prompts and sketches. You are responsible for having the rights to what you upload, and for the idea you ask us to build.

You may use the ROM, the code and the pictures Retroable makes for your account, including commercially, as far as the law and other people's rights allow. We do not claim ownership of that game.

You allow us to host, store, generate and display that game for as long as it is on Retroable, and to manufacture a cartridge you order. While a game is public, this includes showing the game, the prompt and the sketch, and letting anyone play it.

A finished game is public until you switch it to private in the Share dialog. A private game stays out of the library.

We do not use your prompts, sketches or games to train a model of our own. We send the prompt, and the sketch if you added one, to our AI providers only so they can produce the game and the pictures.

Acceptable use

Do not use Retroable to break the law, to upload something you have no right to use, to attack the service or to overload it. We may suspend an account that does this. We will tell you, unless the law stops us or the breach is serious enough that we cannot reasonably keep the account open while we do.

Plans and prices

Prices are the numbers on the pricing page and at checkout. Europe pays those numbers in EUR. The United States and Canada pay the same numbers in USD. They are final. As a small business under § 19 UStG, we charge no VAT.

  • No trial. A plan is paid from the first day.
  • Starter. 19 each month, or 190 each year. 200 credits each month.
  • Creator. 49 each month, or 490 each year. 800 credits each month.
  • Studio. 99 each month, or 990 each year. 2,000 credits each month.
  • Ultra. 199 each month, or 1,990 each year. 5,000 credits each month, and one hardware release.
  • Lifetime. Starter Lifetime is 499 for the first 250 accounts. Creator Lifetime is 999 for the first 150 and includes one hardware release. Studio Lifetime is 1,999 for the first 75 and includes two. Ultra Lifetime is 5,000 for the first 25 and includes four. A lifetime account keeps that plan's monthly credits. A hardware release is one sample for one platform, when that feature is available. Shipping is extra.
  • Credit packs. Optional top-ups at the prices on the pricing page. They do not expire.
  • Edit pack. 50 extra edits, at the price shown at checkout. They stay on the account until you use them.
  • Currency. Europe pays EUR. The United States and Canada pay USD. The number is the same in both.
  • Cartridge. $149 for one cartridge of your game, in a printed box, made for you and shipped to the address you enter at checkout, to a country offered there.
  • Physical release. A presale, one per game. The feature starts no earlier than March 2026. The price is $199. Buying the presale before then takes 20% off, and checkout applies the discount code creatorPresale. Paying now lets us build the feature. It includes one sample — a box, a cartridge and a printed manual — shipped to you once the feature is available, to the USA, Canada, or Europe. Shipping is extra and is not part of the price. More shipping places follow after March 2026. From then, we sell that game physically on your behalf. From each sale, hardware cost is covered first. 40% of what remains pays for the box, manual and cartridge. The rest is paid to you, starting with PayPal.

Cancel a subscription from your account, under Manage subscription. You keep what you have already paid for through the end of that period. Closing a game does not cancel the subscription.

Affiliate program

Any account can share a personal link. Using the program means you agree to this section as well as the rest of these terms.

A new customer who starts Starter, Creator, Studio, or Ultra, monthly or yearly, or who buys a Lifetime plan, through your link gets 25% off the first amount they are charged. Later subscription renewals are the normal price. The discount is once per account. It does not change the right of withdrawal, and it does not change how many Lifetime accounts are available.

You earn 25% of the amount actually paid for those monthly and yearly plans, for 12 months after the first charge. You earn 10% of the amount actually paid for a Lifetime plan, once. Credit packs, the credits included in a plan, cartridges, and hardware releases earn nothing. A yearly plan and a Lifetime plan do not pay again when Retroable grants the monthly allowance. Commission is in the currency charged, EUR or USD, rounded to the nearest cent.

A change among the subscription tiers during those 12 months earns 25% of what that invoice actually charges.

There is no commission for your own account, for an account that had already paid, or for a payment that is refunded or lost in a dispute. If we already paid you, the difference is deducted from the next payout in that currency.

We pay once a month, to the PayPal email in Settings, separately in EUR and USD, for commission from the previous month. Under 10 in a currency carries forward. If no PayPal email is saved, we wait.

We can withhold or end commission for a self-referral, a fake account, paid ads to the link, bidding on the Retroable name, or posting the link on coupon or cashback sites.

You are responsible for tax on what you receive. We may pause a payout if we cannot pay that PayPal address.

Withdrawal

If you are a consumer, you have the statutory right of withdrawal described on the withdrawal page. For a digital plan it ends once the service has started, after you asked us to start and confirmed that you know the right ends. A cartridge, and a physical-release sample, is made to your game, so that right does not apply to it. The physical-release sample is not sent before March 2026.

Availability

We work to keep Retroable available. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted. We may change a feature. If we withdraw a feature you have already paid for, we will tell you and, where the law requires a remedy, offer one.

Liability

We are liable without limit for injury to life, body or health, for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and where the German Product Liability Act applies. For a slightly negligent breach of a duty that is essential to this contract, our liability is limited to damage that is typical and foreseeable for this kind of service. Further liability for slight negligence is excluded. Nothing in these terms takes away mandatory rights of a consumer.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that affects a paid plan, we email you beforehand. You can cancel before the change takes effect. If you do not, the new terms apply from the next period.

Law

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, without the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, you keep the mandatory protections of the country where you live. If you are acting as a business, the courts at Greven, Germany, have exclusive jurisdiction.
